Council Meeting Minutes and Treasurer’s Report

Good Saturday morning!

The latest council meeting minutes and treasurer’s report are available.  Just go to the “Council News” page.

Please pay particular attention to the Pinewood Derby needs, as well as the upcoming West Coast Regional Counselors’ Conference.  The Derby will be held at Bethel Bellflower and the Regional at Sun Valley!

Camporee Certification Available

Long Beach CRC has volunteered to host a Council Certification day for any counselor and/or cadet on Saturday, May 20th 2017.  Start time will be announced.  Lunch will be available, similar to Pinewood Derby and Field Day.  The church address is 5559 East Wardlow Road in Long Beach.

Having this certification is a requirement for attending the summer Cadet International Camporee so if you are planning on going to Camp Elk Run this summer, this certification is a MUST.  If you want to read ahead and get a jump on the certification, the Camporee Certification Course is available from your Quartermaster, George Bell

Presently, the following events will be led by:

  • Firebuilding – Bill Mulder, Artesia Trinity
  • Shelter Building – Brad Peterson, Bethany CRC, Bellflower
  • Camp Cooking and Associated Skills – Jerry Sterk, First URC Chino
  • Axemanship – Craig Doty, Bayview OPC

Calendar Updated

Our Council Calendar has been updated with events finalized at yesterday’s council meeting.  Event pages will be updated as more information comes available for the Pinewood Derby, next council meeting (April 27th), Camporee Certification, Council Rocket Shoot and the Cadet International Camporee.

Current plans are for a group of SOCAL counselors and cadets to drive to Camp Elk Run.  Plans are to leave on Friday, 7 July and return on the Sunday, 23 July.  There will not be any coordinated air travel for clubs/counselors/cadets wishing to fly.

The Southwest Regional Cadet Conference will be on March 3 and 4 in Visalia.  The counselors in Visalia came up with a cool idea to not have the conference at a Church like we typically do, but to have a campout.  Tents and food will be provided and we will have a campout and bonfire on Friday night and then some training seminars in the morning.  It sounds like it will be a lot of fun so I want to encourage everyone to attend.”
For information on the Regional Cadet Conference, check out the events page and scroll down to the Regional Cadet Conference page.

Field Day Results!

We have a winner!

Congratulations to the Cadets and Counselors from “The Bridge”, club number 1520 for winning the 2016 Field Day and receiving the Field Day trophy on Saturday, December 3rd.

Field Day was hosted by First URC and held at Ontario Christian High School.  Check out the Field Day Event page for more information, and the official score sheet.

Spring 2016 Update

Summer is almost upon us and it’s bringing a West Coast Camporee!

Our Events/Camporee page provides you information and registration information on the camporee.  So check it out and make plans now.  It is a great way to prepare your RPBs and Guide Trails for the International Camporee 2017.

Our council met last Thursday at Bell One.  This was originally planned to be a webcast with regional locations available, but last-minute changes on the Executive Board necessitated a face-to-face meeting.  You can read the full minutes on the “Council News” page.  In the meantime, a brief recap of the highlights:

  • Per our Constitution, Art. V. Section 1, Matt Gabrielse was nominated and unanimously approved as interim President.
  • Some of next year’s events were scheduled: Field Day (12/3); Pinewood Derby (3/25/17); First Council meeting (9/1) at 1st URC of Chino; and Second Council meeting (10/18) at Artesia Trinity
  • Rocket launch will be held at Lucerne Valley on May 20th and the 21st, with the rocket launch happening on Saturday morning.
