Bayview Cadets took part in a San Diego Cadets overnight onboard the USS Midway Museum on September 9-10.  Cadets and their parents from Bayview OPC, Escondido URC and San Marcos CRC mustered at 6:00pm on September 9th for boarding.  The three clubs were broken in “squadrons” and each squadron followed a different schedule for touring the 65,000-ton aircraft carrier.  Rain dampened the flight-deck so all activities were brought indoors and held either on the tour routes or on the hangar deck.  Our squadrons visited such places of the bridge, engineering, damage control central, the U.S. Marine Corps detachment spaces, dental and medical, mess decks and the command information center (or CIC).  Museum volunteers or active-duty military greeted each squadron and briefed us on the history and use of these spaces.  Here are a few pictures

Father-Son Camping Trip to William Heise County Park here in San Diego.  We arrived Friday late afternoon and quickly set up three campsites (max 2 tents/site).  Dinner was grill-your-own hot dogs over the fire pit.  Stayed close to our campsites while we waited for our other campers to arrive.  Quiet time began at 10pm and the fire had to be cold and wet by 11.

Sunup brought a beautiful autumn day in the high country of Eastern San Diego county.  Cool weather greeted the campers as they made their way to the fire and breakfast: burritos and hot cocoa or coffee.

After breakfast cleanup, the club, along with dads, made our way to Julian where we toured the Eagle Mine.  This mine opened in 1870 and was active for several decades into the mid 1900s.  You can check it out here:  https://www.theeaglemining.com/.  The tour ended with the boys trying out their skills with panning for gold!  A few found success but the gold had to remain at Eagle Mining for the next group.  A great trip if you are ever in Julian, CA.

Here we go!  Our Cadet season begins September 1st, 2021.   We begin the year with the Archery merit badge, and helping the boys prepare for Field Day 2021.  Also, on tap is the Cadet Landmark – Code as the source for our weekly study of God’s Word.  During September, we will be focusing on “A Cadet is ‘Reverent'” and what that means.  Looking forward to all the boys returning and maybe some friends with them.  “God’s in Control!”

Closing Ceremonies 2021.  This past year was unusual, to say the least.  With COVID-19 causing many activities to be cancelled or modified, the club met outdoors and focused on earning R-P-B merit badges.  When the year ended in May, the boys had earned as many as ten merit badges and almost everyone earned the rank of “Recruit” or “Pathfinder”.  Congratulations!

Christmas Caroling 2018.  Family and Friends from Bayview OPC joined with our Cadets on our Thirteenth visit to the Chula Vista Veteran’s Home during the Christmas Holiday season.  Caroling at the Home is always a neat experience as young men get to meet and visit with veterans; many of whom relate how wonderful it is to listen to the songs of Christmas.  Especially touching is those service members who have no one to visit them.  For those, having the Cadets, their families and friends sing is truly a ministry experience.

Afterwards, we met back at Bayview church for some light refreshments.

Pinewood Derby 2016 – We missed having Anthony with us, but as you can see everyone had a good time.  Congratulations to Sean who brought home the “B” Group Turkey trophy!  It is the second time in three years that Sean’s car was the S-L-O-W-E-S-T in his age group to cross the finish line.

Field Day Update (11/11/15) – Our cadets were reminded of the Axemanship rules, along with learning some tips to building a good fire (Thanks to Counselors Mike).

Here is the results of one of the cadet’s efforts.

Cadet Sunday (1/24/16) – Pastor Roger Wagner challenged us to be “Hooked on Christ” in a Holy Spirit-empowered way.  Listen and be encouraged and challenged.

Pinewood Derby (3/28/15) – The boys were challenged by Cadets from several other clubs in Southern California.  Congratulations for being up to the challenge, but sad that with this event, one of our boys (and his family) moved out of state.  Good bye Calvin!

1/18/15 Update – Dr. Dennis Johnson (http://wscal.edu/academics/faculty/dennis-e-johnson), filled our Bayview pulpit on Cadet Sunday.  Speaking from Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and 19-20, he presented us all with a challenge  — Live for Jesus!  Hear it here:   http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?SID=118151357210

11/27/14 Update – Camping at San Elijo State Park was AWESOME!  Our Gracious God provided us with signs of His glorious creation.

11/10/14 Update – “Introduction to Marksmanship badge this Saturday morning, 15 November at 9:30am.  Also, overnight club camping at San Elijo State Park (Encinitas) on Friday, 21 November.  We’ll meet at Bayview and carpool up to the park.

1/21/14 Update – “We’re going to Mt. Palomar in May for a two-night camping trip on May 9-10.
